Shanarra was nice enough to take charge and setup the 3rd (4th?) annual random drivel NFL football pool. I lost my credentials/account information from last year so it's at a new address randomdrivel2.football.sportsline.com/e You'll need to sign up for a CBS sportsline ID and know the football pool password which is randomdrivel2
Going to invite folks from our sister site byopvr and shanarra was going to see if the politico's over at MySpinzone could put down the rhetoric for a minute and make some football picks.
Last years winner almost got a randomdrivel mug... Congrats Marty =)
To make it more interesting this year, I'm going to up the prize a little bit.
The overall winner of the season long pool is going to get a Hauppauge WinTV PVR 150 "retail" edition TV tuner/encoder card so that they can have most of what they need (sans PC) to make your own tivo. Although, regretfully I'll only ship the price in the continental US.

Thought this kinda cool milestone of the sister site deserved a mention over here... byopvr got mentioned in a print mag, woot!
Computer Shopper has a pretty cool Windows MCE 2005 how-to article entitled Media Center: DIY Edition -- You don't have to settle for a preconfigured PC to enjoy the benefits of the latest Media Center Edition OS. Here's how to custom-build your own rig.
When Microsoft released its Windows XP Media Center Edition (MCE) operating system, it made it clear the only way to get the OS was with a new PC. Through a loophole in its agreement, however, sellers who are considered PC builders, such as Newegg.com, can offer the latest version of the OS to end users as long as they buy it with a piece of hardware—even if it's just a $10 cable.
This is great news for do-it-yourselfers who desire MCE's pleasing interface and control over all their digital media in a PC built to their exact specifications. If you're one of them, this project's for you. Component by component, we tell you exactly what you need to build an MCE PC.
The Computer Shopper article gets extra "street cred" for including a link back to BYOPVR, and even listed BYOPVR in the July 2005 print edition (page 90) of the article as an online resource. I believe that's our first major print magazine site mention. I love it when the site gets recognized in other articles!
The Sample Media Center Configuration should be a pretty handy HOWTO guide for those of you who can't decide what motherboard or case to get.

Sadly, (and despite all the sooper-dooper effort you put into the snazzy new look) your site has become spectacularly boring. This is a shame since I have been directing people to your site for some time. I was always impressed with the fact that you were a window onto intelectual entertainment that avoided the myriad of porn and hubristic flotsom that has permeated the WEB.
Maybe you need to back off the beer making and let your brain cells regain control of your mouse.
Thanks for all the (previous) laughs.
Lornzaphone
Thanks Lornzaphone, you're right! (your words have the power to hurt...) But beer has little to do with the matter. Drivel was always suppose to be a user driven site, we counted on folks like you to help generate the content. But, alas, this post is the most interesting thing we've gotten in a while and most of the site's founders have some big personal projects and issues in the works that keep us from dedicating oodles of time to the site. Want to help? Submit some good content, if not, thanks for laughing...
Week 1 Picks must be submitted by 8:00 PM ET Thursday nite. The first game of the season starts at 9:00 PM Thursday nite - New England vs. Indianapolis.

I'm still looking to switch cell phone companies, anyone have a suggestion? I currently use Sprint. I can't get a single good source for Cell phone service comparisons. Every site just tries to sell me stuff. I need an independent 3rd party. What do you use; do you like the service and coverage? Use the comments and let me know what you think, please...
I was told Verizon was good, but then I found this site... "VerizonEatsPoop.com is itself a statement against Verizon, the product of the merger of GTE and Bell Atlantic, and its scare tactics attempting to stifle criticism. Initially Verizon registered a slew of 706 domains which could be used to criticize the corporation, such as Verizonsucks.com and Verizon-Shit.com, began threatening anyone who had the word Verizon in their domain with frivolous lawsuits."

With the election year heating up, war raging and scandals and controversy all over the place, now seemed like the perfect time to launch a drivel spin off site dedicated to news, politics and current events. We are pleased to introduce, My Spin Zone!
