Leon DVD
Action, drama, suspense, humour. Someone tell me what this film DOESNT have!
From the creative mind of Luc Besson, director of La Femme Nikita, Leon is truly a masterpiece. Jean Renos portrayal of the lonely hitman is incredible. But he is not alone in presenting really believable characters; Gary Oldman and Natalie Portman also give their all as a corrupt cop and an innocent girl caught up in the mayhem, respectively. (Well, obviously)
The direction of this film is intense to say the least. A real feeling of drama and tension is created in the deep, dark chilling atmosphere. And the writing is superb and gritty. By the end of the film, you will really feel sorry for Leon and Mathilda, and you will hate Gary Oldmans character, and his bunch of goons. The action is superbly paced, and incredibly well shot too.
People can interpret many things in this film in various ways; such as the relationship between Mathilda and Leon. Myself and some others feel as though as there might just have been a “peado” vibe going on there; while others see their relationship as perfectly innocent; possibly his longing for a child he could never have because of his choice of lifestyle. I think the film wants you to question this though; and has been deliberately written so that it can be interpreted in more than one way. IMHO, thats a hard thing for a film to do without becoming too obvious that it was intended to be that way.
As for extras, this DVD has a minimal amount. Chapter selection is all that is included. No animated menus; not even a trailer. But you but the DVD for the film, not the extras. And this film makes up for lack of extras by being not just good, but superb.
A great movie that everyone should own.
