T2: Ultimate Edition DVD
T2: JUDGEMENT DAY - ULTIMATE EDITION DVD.
The first thing I think about when I review something is "why did I buy it". The answer to this one was simple. But it has two parts. First off, I love this movie, and I didn't have the directors cut, or a copy on DVD; so it practically walked off the shelf and into my arms. But secondly, mine is a limited edition version. That means it came in a nice shiny embossed tin, with a 32-page collector's booklet. Ok, superficial it might be; but it doesn't half look great.
But back to the movie. I'm sure you know the score with this one, so I will spare you all of the details that I could go into.
Basically, another terminator is sent back in time to assassinate John Connor, future Human Resistance leader. And again, a protector is sent. Just this time it’s another, re-programmed, terminator. What fun! The "bad" terminator is a T-1000; an emmimetic-polly-alloy (sp?) liquid metal machine that can form into "knives and stabbing weapons"The "good" terminator is a T-800 Model 101, and that's Arnie. So the good and bad terminators battle it out, and you can piece together the rest of the story from there. Great acting from Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor, Edward Furlong as John Connor and also Joe Morton as Miles Dyson. The two cybernetic organisms in this movie, Arnie and Robert Patrick, also put in great performances that are really believable. The effects do show their age, but are still great. The script and the direction are superb; I especially love Sarahs monologues and of course the one liners. Through and through, it is a great action/sci-fi movie; the only think I think it lacks is the dark atmosphere of the first.
You have the Directors Cut on VHS already? Why should you but this you ask? Well, you probably didn't, but if you did...
This edition has over 6-hours of extra content packed onto the 2 disc set. From behind the scene stuff to the script and loads more, it is a DVD to put others to shame. This is how a DVD should be. And the best part of this is the extra stuff that was left out from the theatrical release, and also the other bits that never made even the directors cut edition; like the ";future coda" scene amongst others. If you are interested in the film-making process, this DVD basically breaks the ENTIRE thing down; even right up to the marketing and merchandising that they did for the film. As well as all that, its THX certified, so that means its got excellent quality sound and picture; and its in 16:9 anamorphic widescreen.
All in all, a great action movie, that equalls its predecessor; but just dosent quite beat it.
